A performance
commisioned by Central-Reservation for nine pianos and a nonaphonic sound
sytem. Eight of the pianos were 'derelict' straight-strung
uprights, their hammers, keys and casings removed leaving the string
harps exposed. These were arranged in a circle which contained the
audience and a speaker placed behind each and a single string of each
prepared with a guitar pick-up. In the centre of the space a baby grand
was prepared more extensively with contact mics, pick-ups, transducers
and a phonograph cartridge. The whole system was wired up to mixing desk
in the centre from which I controlled a variety of feedback loops. Photograph
